We have a speed advantage based on what I have seen.

Slowing it down as the smaller team is crazy.

North Carolina feasts in transition.     Its how they avoid prolonged offensive slumps--- while tempting,  going fast against them is a recipe for getting buried.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

Yeah. That was my biggest fear was that we'd try to out run them. On the other hand, it is what we do. I get what the OP is saying.

Either way, if we are gonna keep letting them dominate the offensive glass, they will win by 30+.

Its going to be a matter of picking your poison when you are playing a legit Final 4 type team.

I'd rather lose by 19, than 39.

Bs. We haven't pushed the ball. We are going too deep in the clock which causes crazy shots and long rebounds .

We are going slow. They are going fast.

Gotta change.

We've pushed the ball, and sucked at converting-- which has led to transition points for them-- heck, they're even in transition off our makes at times.   When we slow down, our offense is significantly better in the half court with them--  there is a reason why they're considered the best transition offense in college basketball.

Playing them fast is a recipe for a one sided blow out-- its the old  mentality we used to use to get teams to run with us.  It was a mistake then, and is a mistake for us now.

Are you really trying to claim that we didn't speed up?

They turned it over and we got easy shots and driving lanes opened up. It also picked up our energy level.

15-2 run didn't happen by slowing the pace.

ErieHog

From the 3:19 mark-

Long 2 for Beard, 20 seconds into the shot clock.

Macon hits 3 FTs  at the 2:25 mark with under 10 on the shot clock

Bailey gets one transition basket.

Easy steal underneath the hoop, we back it out, reset, and make a good pass.

UNC answers with a made transition 3.  Arkansas slows it back down with a Moses 3 about half way through the shot clock.

UNC gets a cheap follow.   We slow it down and don't initiate the offense until the 15 second mark on the shot clock, getting a Macon 3.

One, if you are being kind,  2 transition makes for Arkansas in that entire last 3:19--  and UNC still got 3 points in their transition in that same time frame.

Speeding it up is obviously *not* what closed that gap.  Made shots,  in the halfcourt set, and relatively deep into the shot clock is what closed that gap.

They showed a graphic with about 4 minutes in the half, that puts paid to that assertion-- at that point, we were outscored 17-2 off turnovers and even more broadly in transition in general.

Yes, they're going to want us to push the pace in what isn't a terribly competitive basketball game, because at least that will be interesting.     The numbers never, ever lie.

There's no fibbing or fudging what we did wrong.  We played extremely poorly offensively in transition for the first 17 minutes, and finally got a true transition make-- our second in the game, because they were being kind with a bucket at about the 16 minute mark where we took the shot relatively early in the shot clock off a turnover--    and that was pretty much it.

We didn't play any faster.    We simply hit shots in the half court offense.

We were shooting in the low 30s, like UNC is, until that last little run.

The way to beat UNC is using the model other teams that beat them have- slow it down, make them grind out possessions, do all you can to keep them off the offensive glass, and knock down 3s and FTs

Bud, I have been a successful coach. You do what you do even if it is comfortable for a better team because if you were at your best playing the opposite of who you are you would already be playing that way primarily.

We play with pace and it helps us execute going down the stretch. We are more efficient in the second half offensively because we are able to push pace.

I think you might not understand what I mean by speeding up either. I am talking about sprinting in transition on offense and exploring fast break opportunities, not jacking up transition 3's.

We are not a good low energy team. It causes us to stand around offensively and be bad in defensive transition.

Don't call me 'bud'.   If you've coached, you'd know better than the drivel you're spouting.

We haven't played with pace against any team we were even relatively even in talent against in a long while.  We've been a half court team that feasts at the foul line pretty much all year.  That's who we are.    We've scored a lot of points because we have shot FT extremely well, and have had the 3rd or 4th best 3 point shooting season as a team that we've had in the last 20 years.

We are getting our butts kicked up and down the floor in transition;   we've executed *significantly* better in the half court offensively, than we have converting  in transition, even when going to the rim.

They've had relatively few turnovers today, even with hobbled guards.  Most of our turnovers forced today have been like that last little one with the Beard 3--  them not clearing the ball off the boards to the guards.

That said, we're also converting our transition opportunities better now, as well-- but it is still a very big mistake to play pace with UNC--- the only offense they're really managing right now is in transition.     If we manage them on the offensive glass these last 10 minutes, they're going to struggle to score.

The game hasn't gotten faster, though.   Watch the shot clock, and when we're taking these things.  We've converted halfcourt opportunities much better, and UNC hasn't been able to fall out of a boat and hit water, except in some transition opportunities.  That's the entire difference in the game
Are you serious? The game changed when we started pressing and pushing missed shots. Just let it go, faster is better today.

Faster is worse.   We want this game to stay in the 70 point range.

Go possession by possession through the game-- though we are converting much better in transition than we did early, the entire difference is in half court efficiency--  UNC has been godawful, and we've been pretty solid.

You gotta be kidding.  You think we are winning the half court game?
