Four-star Gamecock signee won't be prosecuted in larceny case

USC signee Shameik Blackshear will not be prosecuted on a petit larceny charge.  The decision was made after the alleged victim requested that the case be dropped.

It was alleged that Blackshear had taken a purse and safe from a Mill Creek (SC) home Feb. 7. The total value of the items contained in the purse and safe totaled nearly $1,400. He was arrested at his high school and charged with one count of petit larceny.

A four-star member of USC's 2015 recruiting class, Blackshear was rated as the No. 18 strongside defensive end in the country and the No. 5 player at any position in the state of South Carolina.

The state's No. 1 football prospect heard so many rumors about how he had "secretly" committed to UGA that he felt the need to publicly address it.

Derrick Brown is the 5-star defensive tackle from Lanier High School in Gwinnett County.

On Thursday, Brown tweeted out this: "For all the people who think I have silently committed, that's a false statement. My recruitment is still open as it was when it started."

"I don't want anybody to stop recruiting me because they think I'm already committed to one school. I'm open to everything."

Who was the "somebody" asking the rumor? Brown didn't say, but it's probably a good bet that it was from some of the dozens of college scouts who have stopped by Lanier's spring practices this week.

So do the Bulldogs still lead for his services?

"They sit at the top of the list, so ..." he replied.

And after that? "It's Tennessee, Auburn and Alabama." So it's Tennessee or Auburn at No. 2? "It's Auburn at No. 2, then Alabama and Tennessee. It's really just a top four."

After setting the record straight, Brown said he plans to commit on next year's signing day after taking all five official visits.

Massive 4-star defensive tackle Kendell Jones has Alabama in top 5

A report from an Orangebloods.com writer surfaced that big defensive tackle Kendell Jones from Killeen, Texas, had committed to Alabama on Thursday afternoon. Jones and his father later refuted that, saying the younger Jones would tweet his final five later in the day.

Jones, nicknamed "Hulk," measures in at nearly 6-foot-5 and 361 pounds. The four-star recruit, rated No. 66 overall in the 247Sports composite, made the trip to Alabama for A-Day and earned an Alabama offer there.

Jones tweeted that his top five consisted of Alabama, Texas, Texas A&M, LSU and Baylor and stressed that it was in no order.

"I believe (he wants to commit soon), but we'll see about that," said Channon Hall, Jones' head coach at Shoemaker High School. "I think he wants to."

David Marshall, a 3-star defensive end from Thomaston's Upson-Lee High School, announced his de-commitment from Auburn on Twitter on Tuesday.

Marshall, who is rated as the state's No. 35 overall prospect, had originally committed to Auburn last March.

However, Marshall changed his after visiting Auburn again on Saturday for "Big Cat Weekend," and then going to camp at archrival Alabama on Sunday.

Missouri defensive tackle Terry Beckner Jr. Beckner Jr., one of the top recruits in Missouri's Class of 2015, has been cleared by the NCAA to be eligible to play this fall.

Missouri is set to begin summer sessions on Monday, and Beckner is registered in the campus directory.

Beckner was a four-star recruit out of East St. Louis, Illinois. His 6.0 Rivals rating is the highest of any of Mizzou's Class of 2015 members and is the highest since Dorial Green-Beckham was rated a 6.1 by Rivals in the Class of 2012.

The 6-foot-3, 245-pounder from The First Academy in Orlando made the commitment Thursday morning following an overnight visit to the Plains.

"I'm extremely blessed," he told 247Sports. "I'm very excited for what's upcoming for me."

The commitment comes as a bit of a surprise, as Newkirk made the decision shortly after receiving his offer from Gus Malzahn. He had named Alabama, Connecticut and Kentucky his top three schools earlier this month.

Auburn now holds 10 pledges in its 2016 recruiting class. Newkirk is the only defensive lineman currently committed.
