this happened faster than i expected, but based on results I think it's apropos.
McNabb ain't all that, not sure he ever was.

Donovan McNabb to second-string. Then to third-string. Then no guarantee that he'll be back next season.

Maybe he's no John Elway after all.

The ever-dramatic Washington Redskins upset the NFL apple cart once again Friday when coach Mike Shanahan announced Rex Grossman as his starter for the rest of the season, beginning with Sunday's game at Dallas.
Donovan McNabb will be the Redskins' No. 3 QB in the final two games after serving as backup this Sunday. (AP)
McNabb will be the No. 2 quarterback against the Cowboys, then drop to No. 3 behind Grossman and John Beck for the final two games of the season.

And after that?

"I also told him," Shanahan said, "that I cannot guarantee him that he will be back next year."
Be thankful we're not getting all the government we're paying for.

Looks like he's heading to  Minnesota next year.

Maybe the Vikes will draft a QB, and let  them hold a clipboard for a year -- then again, that might be too sensible.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

seems like shanahan's policy is to drive out high paid mistakes like haynesworth and mcnabb and then replace them with his own players.  the problem is a lot of shanahan's players also wind up being big mistakes, if you look at his history.

True, but the problem was that McNabb was Shanahan's mistake.  He courted him and gave an early second rounder to Philadelphia for him.

The fact that the Eagles were more than happy to trade McNabb within the division should have been telling enough.  The mantra of "I'd rather play against him than with him" is more than applicable in this situation.

McNabb is a very good QB physically.

But he's not a leader.

After 11 years of watching him and hoping, I just don't think he cares that much about the game or winning.

The fact that you can type the words doesn't stop the thought behind those words from being horseshit.

Good point.  He reminds me of someone in the Michael Vick mold - almost solely reliant on his physical abilities but not dedicated to film study in the way of a Peyton Manning and not a leader like Tom Brady or Phillip Rivers.  I'm of the opinion that the sun is rapidly setting on McNabb's effectiveness as an NFL quarterback.

I think Mike Vick is remaking himself into more of a leader.

And McNabbs effectiveness peaked at reaching and losing the Super Bowl. Kinda like Nutt and the Crap One bowl.

yep.  given the state they were in with williams, i'm not sure it was a bad gamble.  they had to try something at QB to compete, but the whole benching/starting/re-benching just makes shanahan look like a fool in the end, imo.  before he ever got started with that team he lost all credibility with the players.

Hmmm.  I seem to remember having a pitched battle with someone on this board in the preseason over my assertion that Donovan McNabb is an overrated QB.

Mike Shanahan and Andy Reid, two men who have coached him, seem to agree with me.

Yeah, that's right.  And after all, Shanahan has only won two Super Bowls as a head coach, while the Redskins with all their players who know how to run an NFL team have been dominating year after year after year.

ditka won a super bowl too, and he's about as overrated as it gets.

shanahan's super bowls were kinda like the switzer super bowl.  he takes over the team in 95, they win through 98 with the players that were there already.

but after that it's been nothing but mediocre for the past 10 years.  he's had 9 losing seasons and 9 winning seasons as a head coach.

He can't win the games by himself.....he's an able qb, much better than Jason Campbell
