Sun-Sat (10/29-11/04/17) updates: Chaney gm highlights, Ethan Henderson smash, and a lot more ...

Sunday (10/29) ...

* '18 Reggie Chaney (6-8 PF) committed to Arkansas on Sat, Oct. 28, then had 10 pts (5-of-9 FGs), 8 rebs, 4 asts, 1 stl, and 1 blk to lead Findlay prep over Sierra Canyon, 62-52 ... linked are my tweeted highlights and comments from that day ...

* Reported that '19 Isaac McBride (6-1 combo guard, Baptist Prep / Arkansas Hawks) is getting interest from LSU, and the Tigers are looking to come to town to see him play. McBride has a Little Rock offer and has gotten recruiting intereest from Arkansas. Strong, skilled, and confident, he's been mostly a 3-point or dribble-drive-to-the-basket scorer, but he's gotten much better with handles and setting up others off the bounce. Definite mid-major with some high-major interest.

Robinson is now being recruited by Arkansas, Indiana, Stanford, and OKSt ... Doakes has reported offers from Florida, Texas A&M, TCU, SMU, SoMiss, Abileen Christian ... Davis has reported offers from SMU, SoMiss, Abilene Christian.

Tuesday (10/31) ...

*  Went to Parkview practice on Halloween, and '18 Hog commit Ethan Henderson literally stopped practice with this steal and NBA launch-and-smash!

https://twitter.com/ARHoopScoop/status/925489525253705728

... more from that Parkview practice ... Henderson looks stronger and is playing with an edge that I really haven't seen before. Now, it's practice and not the real thing yet, but FWIW he seems determined for a big senior season. 6-5 combo guards '18 CJ White and '19 Alan Flanigan are big, physical, athletic backcourt players. A few highlights of them below, plus interviews with Henderson and Flanigan ...

* Head Hog Mike Anderson and associate HC Melvin Watkins were at NLR on Tuesday to see '20 UA offer Moses Moody (6-5 SG), as well as '19 Collin Moore (6-4 wing, LRTrojans offer and Hog interest). It's the 3rd time since Sept 9 that Arkansas has been out to NLR to see Moody.

Wednesday (11/01) ...

* Two of the Top 5 in-state players in the 2021 class -- Ryan Maxwell, Jr., and Jordan Maxwell (both are in the 6-4 range, and both play at Jacksonville) -- announced they will play with the Arkansas Hawks organization. They played with nationally ranked Joe Johnson Elite 14U last spring/summer. They join Hawks ballers Jalen Ricks (6-3 PG, Sylvan Hills) and Jaylin Williams (6-9 F, FS Northside) to form what could be another super team of multiple high-major players.

* '18 Hog commit Isaiah Joe (6-4 SG, ARHawks) and '20 Jaylin Williams (6-9 F, ARHawks) led the defending 7A state champs FS Northside into the Jacksonville Jamboree on Saturday ... the Grizzlies played a total of 4 quarters -- 2 against Mountain Home and 2 against Little Rock Fair -- and both Joe and Williams were impressive.

In 4 quarters of action against 2 teams, Joe had a total of 24 points (7-of-13 FGs including 3-of-7 from 3 and 7-of-7 FTs), 9 assists, 9 rebounds, and 9 steals ... yeah, he was close to a quadruple-double in approximately 22 minutes on the court. Zay is playing a lot at PG, and his handles and facilitating were the best I've seen today. Lots of crafty dribble-drives and well-timed set-ups for others. He's a smart, skilled, talented guard who's much more than a shooter.

Williams continues to impress me. Although he's a sophomore at FSNorthside, he's only 14 years old and plays spring/summer grassroots with his age group, which is c/o '21. Soft hands, nice touch facing up and shooting, runs the floor well, keeps the ball up high off the catch or rebounds, does not hesitate to shoot or pass ... he had 11 pts (5-of-6 FGs and 1-of-1 FTs), 9 rebounds, 5 steals, and 4 assists while playing about 20 minutes in 4 quarters split up against Mountain Home and LR Fair. This young man is no-brainer mid-major, and has a great shot at high-major. In fact, it would not shock me if he ends up 6-11 and the top in-state prospect in either the '20 or '21 class (if he goes prep-school route to stay with his age group).

Here are several highlights from today in Jacksonville ...

Great info man. That dunk by Ethan is phenomenal. I've said before, at times, he can play like a man amongst boys and it definitely shows in that clip.

He has so much untapped potential that's it's scary. If we think our current team is athletic, wait until we see next year's team

I agree. I see why people are saying he could play the 5 in the absence of Gafford. He has ridiculous length, just got to add 20-30lbs.

Hopefully Jaylin Williams continue to develop. It easier recruiting big men in our backyard than going in another state. We wouldn't have gotten Portis or Gafford from another state.

He's from Texas. And it was sure tougher to get him than it was Bobby Portis or Ethan Henderson.

He still got him though... Mike's relationships pay off better the more he wins... I think we'll pull nice recruits every year from outside the state..  CMA  is just getting it revved up .. takes a long time to build stability and success in the eye's of top recruits/families.. we're getting closer.. Findley Prep and IMG, are 2 growing relationships.. a lot of talent thru those 2 schools...

Getting Reggie Chaney does not magically change that it is easier to get in-state players as opposed to players from outside Arkansas. I'm not sure why you even feel the need to argue this. Obviously the staff can go out and get players from outside the state. But it is tougher.

Looks like Isaiah is going to be money. Plus, I love players that pay the price to be good FT shooters.

Can Henderson replace Gafford at the proper time?

Chaney is good, but not the caliber of Portis and Gafford.
Honestly I hope not because that means we might have him for 4 years.  Gafford is gone soon

It was stated that Mike would not have gotten Portis or Gafford and I responded that he's showing he can go out of state and get a big and used Chaney as a very recent example.. I never said anything about it not being easier in state...
