What are 2 games you most remember for really wanting to choke out the referees?
Quote from: BearsBisonsBoars on January 18, 2016, 11:06:54 pm. The four team playoff is still opinion. Or do you really think MSU was really the fourth best team in CFB?
You miss the boat.  A four team playoff is a championship.  A championship produces... a champion. You seem to be looking for the "best" team.  The "best" doesn't exist. Best does not equal champion.  Best is a myth.
Opinion polls produce... opinions.

It wasn't so much of a culmination of bad calls, but I do remember being enraged during the 2009 LSU game. LSU was driving down the field with 30 seconds left and no timeouts when Ridley was clearly tackled in bounds but the refs ruled him out of bounds, stopping the clock. Given Les Miles' horrendous clock management history that might have been the difference seeing as how LSU kicked a 41 yard field goal to tie it and send it into OT.

100%. We needed Mueller to investigate that game. I 100% believe the fix was in. The conference was protecting their stars.

Most games I wasnt pissed at the refs, more at CBB and the coaching staff for being completely clueless to in game adjustments and would continuously try to run the ball when it was not working

The LSU game that year was probably even a better example of blatantly cheating officials.  Late in the game, Hogs up by three, LSU out of timeouts.  We tackle their back a good 4-5 feet inside the sideline.  A ref is positioned perfectly, five yards behind the play and staring directly down the line.  The ball carrier's knee comes down right in front of the guy, an entire body length inbounds.  The CROOKED THIEF official says he was out of bounds, stops the clock, and allows LSU to get their field goal team on and make the kick that sends it to overtime.  LSU later wins it in OT.

There is NO WAY that was a mistake.  As soon as the guy went down I jumped up and screamed from my living room, watching on TV, with a terrible angle that there was no way he was anywhere close to the sideline.

A thief who wanted LSU to win simply made it happen.

That was a 10 win Hog team.  They actually won 10 games that year, it's just that the refs took two of them away.

EastexHawg

Okay, I went straight to the bottom and didn't read the previous posts.  Several of you remember the same cheating, thieving SOB LSU ref I mentioned.

SooieGeneris

Any game officiated by SWC officials against Texass in the SWC days and any officiated by Penn Wagers (on the other team) and Marc Curles in the SEC era..

09 Florida and 10 Aubarn in particular. The Golden Child, Tebow, was clearly not OOB on a running play, ruled OOB to stop the clock.

Riley KKKooper clearly interfered with our DB in the endzone, no call. Malcolm Shepard called for personal foul when he was merely defending himself..

That game at Aubarn regardless of the 20-22 whatever point margin should have been a tight game as the refs gave the Barners 2 TDs and took one away from us.

Playing with a backup QB after Mallett got cheap shotted out of the game by the dirtiest player in the SEC in the last 20 years. Nick Fairley could have been arrested and charged with assault for what he did to QBs that year, the kid at UGA in particular.

The guy would hit WAY after the whistle blatantly in the back and get away with it. I've never seen a whole conference protect a program the way the SEC did with $cam Newton and the Barners that year, not even Alabama.

Makes you wonder if Cecil Newton was taking those "donations" to his church and giving the refs a little supplemental income.

I had forgotten about the 09 LSU deal, but that one stands out also.
KJ Jefferson, one of only 2 QBs in UA history to go 2-0 in Bowl Games..

The 69 Texas game. Hog fans should have surrounded the field and refused to let the refs leave until SWC officials agreed to split the officials 50-50 from Texas and Arkansas for all games involving the Hogs. Create a hostage situation.

redeye

The 1990 basketball game against Texas in Austin, when Nolan left the court with 14 seconds remaining.  Both teams played great in a heated game, but #3 Arkansas played a little better.  And yet, the refs were going to make sure that a rare sold-out crowd in the Erwin Center wouldn't be disappointed.

Texas held a 1 point lead and they call a foul on Lee Mayberry with 14 seconds remaining, which was the final straw for Nolan and myself.  It was clear that Arkansas wouldn't win the game, thanks to the refs, and I was thinking how if I were Nolan, I'd make a statement by leaving the court.  Then Nolan picks up his jacket and does just that.  Texas hit both free throws and retained possession of the ball somehow, so we foul again and this time they miss.  Mayberry drives down the court and hit a 30ft 3-pointer to send the game to OT, proving why he led the nation in 3pt percentage.  Arkansas won 103-96 in OT in a surreal game that left me stunned and shaking.

This is probably my favorite basketball game of all time, although I'm admittedly biased, and it wouldn't have been the same without the refs helping Texas.  Tom Penders was a good coach who was building Texas into a basketball power, but 3 hard losses to Arkansas that season would halt that.  We beat them again in the Elite Eight a few weeks later, before losing to Duke in the Final Four.

Yep and I'm glad others still remember it, too, because it seems like people have forgotten that game nowadays.  There's still a video of the play in question on youtube and I know there was another incident, too, but I can't remember what it was now.

You were right about that being a 10-win team, also.  The 2009 and 2010 teams were better than people think.  The 2009 team was the best 8-5 team in the nation, without question.  The 2010 team would have played Oregon for the national title, if it had only beaten Auburn.  The loss to Alabama was irrelevant, but there were some no-calls on Bama's pass coverage, at key moments in the game, which never received the attention they should have.

edit: After watching the highlights posted by Jek Tono Porkins, the Texas refs had called a bad intentional foul, which was the final straw for Nolan and why Texas regained possession.   It looked like they were trying to seal the game for Texas, by sending them to the FT  line with the lead, and then giving them the ball back with only 14 seconds remaining.  The intentional foul call was horrendous, but it just one of many that afternoon.

If I remember correctly, that was a Sunday game.  I was a young preacher then and was at a Pastor's house in Lake City Ar.  When Mayberry hit that shot we all yelled so loud the Pastor's wife who was taking a nap thought something bad was happening and came running into the room.

No idea what I preached on that night.

I remember knowing it would be a tough game, because the previous match-up in Barnhill was really heated.  It was a big game that I'd been waiting for and I'd planned to go to Austin to see it, but something got screwed up with my airline tickets.  Going into the game, I thought we'd be lucky to win, but we played well enough to win by 10-15 points, if not for the refs, and yet, we won anyway.   ;D

I've seen this game a few times in recent years. I recall some questionable calls, no calls. Curious what those who saw it at the time thought.

Regarding the topic of this thread, I don't think you can stop at 2. Heck, out of the shoot--Florida, Auburn, SMU. And that's before ALL the Texas games.
