Kentucky football to get some real answers at South Carolina

QuoteSaturday night in Columbia, S.C., 7:30 p.m. kickoff on the SEC Network, Mark Stoops' troops will begin the process of finding the answers to those questions, and many more, when they face the South Carolina Gamecocks in the conference opener.

South Carolina won four its last six regular-season games a year ago to earn a trip to the Birmingham Bowl. The Gamecocks have opened this season 2-0, beating North Carolina State 35-28 at a neutral site (Charlotte) last week and Missouri 31-13 on the road (the other Columbia) on Saturday.

Gamecocks have lost three straight to Kentucky. Steve Spurrier's last two South Carolina teams came up short against UK — probably one of the factors that caused the Old Ball Coach to choose retirement —

South Carolina hype train *might* have gotten a little too far down the track. Can't make a kick.

Lost their star early and for the season to a broken leg

UK has its first winning streak of four-plus against an SEC team since it won 8 straight vs. Miss State 1958-90.

QuoteWildcats are on current losing streaks against six league teams, including five straight to Tennessee, six in a row against the Crimson Tide, seven consecutive to the Bulldogs and 30 uninterrupted years of futility versus Florida. So yes, this run Kentucky is on against South Carolina matters.

There are EIGHT SEC teams Cats never beat more than 2 in row.

"It's not a broken leg," Samuel wrote, "Low ankle fracture. We will be back in 5-6 weeks."

QuoteCOLUMBIA, S.C. — Just after South Carolina football coach Will Muschamp said Deebo Samuel broke his leg, the redshirt junior wide receiver tweeted a different diagnosis.

Muschamp told reporters after the game that Samuel would be out for the season. Samuel, who caught 5 passes for 122 yards and a touchdown in the 23-13 loss to Kentucky, tweeted a different diagnosis, shortly after Muschamp's post-game press conference ended.

"It's not a broken leg," Samuel wrote, "Low ankle fracture. We will be back in 5-6 weeks."

Muschamp said he thought it was the fibula, though he clarified that some of the details were to be determined.

"I don't have all the information," Muschamp said, "but I know he's going to be out for the year."

Samuel, who is among the nation's leaders in scoring, entered play on Saturday night with 5 total touchdowns. He returned 2 kickoffs, caught 2 touchdown passes and scored another rushing.
