Random observations:

1 was lots of fun, good to see football again.
2 the defense appears to have sec size and speed
3. Secondary looked much improved,  they actually turned to find the ball.  Cameron curl looked impressive in coverage, good size and speed.
4 chase hayden has some nice moves and vision.
5. Qbs overall looked good.
6  team practiced with intensity,  seem to having fun.

Cole Kelly looked very comfortable in the pocket
Reid Miller had some good hits along with Chevin Calloway
Kamren Curl had a nice pick

Chase Hayden has the chance to really be an outstanding second option for our running game.

Did some very good work against our ones, and finishes runs.

I think they're going to expand his role in the running aspect of the game, where his impact may fit our offense a bit more.  We're never going to be a screen heavy team, but he does give that option.

Truly appreciate the comments and observations. However, I had to check several times to confirm that this was actually HV. I mean with the very generally upbeat remarks and all.........

Watched the Hayden vid- maybe it's his style, but he doesn't look fast and yet he just runs away from guys. The other things, vision and instincts, he has them both in spades. Can't wait to see him in SEC play.

Tunnel screens to TJ develops faster that convertional screens methinks. Lots of options, lots of quick slants to punish the blitzers.

Great:

Chase Hayden is legit.  He can stop and go better than anyone I've seen in a while.  As smooth a runner that Chase is he also has the ability to lower his shoulder and get an extra yard or 4.  He moved the pile a couple times today.

The freshmen showed out on defense.  Kamren Curl, Chevin Calloway, Grant Morgan, and Hayden Henry all flew around to the ball and made plays.

Sosa is a beast.  He is the perfect combination of all american talent and all american heart.

Stadium, even in it's unfinished state, looked great.  The screens were not functional but they added height and made the stadium looked bigger- if that makes any sense.

Good:

Field goal kicking was improved.

We worked the back ups in at QB.  They got solid reps.  Cole Kelley looked great in the pocket.  Looked to check down and made plays when needed.  Good footwork.

Defensive backs made some plays on the ball.

Bad:

Ty has got to improve.  He holds the ball too long and then throws a bad ball deep.  He should have been picked twice today.

Punting------ if you know a punter on campus then tell him to try out for the team.  Coach Bielema was pretty pissed at Blake today.  He was yelling "We need you now.  You've got to step up!"

What's exactly is the problem with Blake's punting ?   Distance , hang time , placement ?????       Any clues as to what is going on with him?

I was there.

Blake's punts are not good.

Zero hang time.  Poor distance.  He's not necessarily shanking the punts.  He's kicking line drives.

The good news is that I saw Limpert warming up as backup punter.  He was getting drops in so he might get a shot if Blake doesn't improve.  Otherwise we might have to consult with Coach Kevin Kelley out of Pulaski Academy about his philosophy.

Cole Kelley kicked two 55 yards in the part before they opened it.

The coaches know it's a problem.  Bielema was pissed and Coach Burns (Quality Control for Special Teams) was upset as well.  They'll get someone else in there if Blake doesn't improve.  The bad thing is that Blake is a scholarship player.  No reason for him not to be competent.

We saw Vlake punt last year in live games. His punts were virtually indistinguishable from Baker's then. Just a small sample size such that consistency from Blake couldn't be determined. Today must have been a bad day for him because the punts he has on tape in the SEC were good hang time, and well over 40 yards.

Blake did not punt very often last season. The only punts I remember him getting were against Texas State.

According to cfbstats.com both of his punts (as in 2 total) were good and averaged over 47 yards.

Blake has been reportedly inconsistent in the past.  We had Austin Allen listed ahead of him on the depth chart at one time because he was punting badly during practice.

This might have been a bad showing but he better get the bad showings out of his system if he wants to be our starting punter.

No, he didn't punt much last season which I explicitly mentioned in my post.

Just pointing out that line drives that don't actually go very far isn't his basic punt. That he is more than capable of continuing our outstanding punting streak that we've had. It's just a matter of consistency which appears to be an issue.

Through the first two scrimmages to me Carson Proctor and Jack Lindsey have looked as good or better than Storey or Kelley. Both have thrown TD passes against the one defense.

Lindsey looks like a different person than the kid I saw at Springdale. Dan Enos is hell of a quarterback coach. He's got Lindsey throwing better and moving up in the pocket a lot better. I don't know where he's headed but Lunney Jr. told me today Lindsey's gotten taller and stronger and has a lot more confidence. Bielema was raving about his play after the scrimmage.

I'm no a pessimist, I believe in the way (I think) Bielema is trying to rebuild the program (that's a whole different topic on what I have, in my head called "the Dan Mullen method") But...

Boys, I can't help but think we are in for another season of atrocities being committed against our defense.  Our offensive two's have mauled our defensive ones in two straight scrimmages. No bueno

Had over looked Jack but had been wondering about Proctor.. he's a big boy with a history of winning, a pedigree, and coaches in his area thought enough to name him Player of the Year... would like to hear more and look forward to seeing their development under Dan...

Well if basing it off today there were apparently a lot of 1's not on the field when the 2's were on the field on offense. Reading about last week there were a couple of busts by the 1's but shut down most series. If the injuries stop we will have a much better defense IMO
