Center - Jonathan Luigs, Arkansas

AL.com is presenting the No. 1 player to wear each number 1 through 99 in the conference's history.

No. 1 63 is Arkansas center Jonathan Luigs.

QuoteWhile Jonathan Luigs played center for Arkansas, the Razorbacks became the second SEC team to have a 1,000-yard rusher for four consecutive seasons - and in two of those seasons, the Hogs had two 1,000-yard rushers

In 2006, Arkansas' 286.5 rushing yards per game were the highest for an SEC team in 21 years. The Ground Hogs helped the Razorbacks win the SEC West title outright for the only time. That season also was Luigs' first as the All-SEC center.

The next year, he repeated that honor and also received the Jacobs Blocking Trophy, which is presented annually to the SEC's best blocker, and the Rimington Trophy, which is presented annually to the nation's best center, while being named a consensus All-American.

7 Players have been the SEC's rushing leader in consecutive seasons

QuoteThe players who have been the SEC's rushing leader in consecutive seasons are Ole Miss' John Dottley in 1949 and 1950, Alabama's Johnny Musso in 1970 and 1971, Kentucky's Sonny Collins in 1973 and 1974, Georgia's Herschel Walker in 1980, 1981 and 1982, Tennessee's Johnnie Jones in 1983 and 1984, LSU's Kevin Faulk in 1997 and 1998 and Arkansas' Darren McFadden in 2006 and 2007. Although LSU's Derrius Guice, Mississippi State's Nick Fitzgerald, Arkansas' Rawleigh Williams III and Vanderbilt's Ralph Webb finished with more rushing yards last season than Pettway, the Auburn ball-carrier was the SEC's rushing leader because he had the league's highest per-game average at 122.4.

Kentucky football: Benny Snell breaks school record for most rushing touchdowns

QuoteNASHVILLE, Tenn. — Benny Snell has not yet completed his sophomore season, but the Kentucky running back set the program's all-time record for rushing touchdowns on Saturday against Vanderbilt.

Snell entered the game with 25 career rushing touchdowns. Former Kentucky running backs Sonny Collins and Moe Williams shared the school record for rushing touchdowns with 26. Snell's second rushing touchdown against Vanderbilt, coming at the 13- minute mark in the thrid quarter, gave him the record with 27 career rushing touchdowns. He had 13 last year and 14 so far this season.

Making history is nothing new for Snell. He broke six records in his freshman season at Kentucky.

Snell also became the first player in Kentucky history to rush for 1,000 yards in back-to-back seasons. He has 110 rushing yards so far against Vanderbilt.

Gus Malzahn: Kerryon Johnson 'needs to be in the Heisman talk'

QuoteAfter running for more yards against a top 10 rush defense than any other player this season, Kerryon Johnson has plowed his way into the Heisman Trophy conversation.

The Auburn running back had 167 yards on 32 carries and two catches for 66 yards with a 55-yard touchdown to lead the No. 10 Tigers in a 40-17 win over No. 1 Georgia on Saturday.

"I've been saying it for a couple of weeks, he's one of the best running backs in the country, if not the best, and he proved it tonight," Auburn coach Gus Malzahn said. "He needs to be in the Heisman talk. (I'm) very proud of him, not just rushing but he had a big reception, too, and he does a lot of different things in protection."

Johnson, the SEC's leading rusher, hit the 1,000-yard mark for the season during the fourth quarter while his 32 carries equaled Georgia's team total.

Junior from Huntsville liked the praise from his head coach, but didn't take to campaigning on his own behalf for the top individual award in the sport.

"I appreciate it from him seeing as he's coached a few guys in that conversation and guys that have won it," Johnson said. "Until it's in there, it's not in there. I just keep going out, I run, I run and if it gets in there it's pretty cool. It's always been a dream of mine. I never thought I'd get to that level, but it would be pretty awesome to see."

Johnson narrowly edged the 166 rushing yards and three touchdowns by Stanford's Bryce Love against Washington for most yards against a top 10 rush defense in the FBS this season.
