I don't like Verne. I will be glad when he retires.

I've said it for years, nothing diminishes my enjoyment of college football more than Verne and Gary.  They add nothing to the broadcast.  I prefer to watch the game on mute instead of them, which sucks since they always call the biggest SEC games.

I doubt that Danielson really is as dumb as he acts, but he acts so very, very derpy.  No other broadcaster harps on meaningless subjects as much as he does.

Verne may have been good back in the day, but that had to be long before I remember watching football on TV.  He makes short, loud exclamations and sounds like a drunk bulldog when he laughs.  That stuff bothers me way more than his constant mistakes on names, places, etc., which are, you know, his job.

Last post in the Tavern here.  See you guys.  Have fun.

It's really sad when you compare them to the big NFL guys.

Collinsworth and Michaels make Verne and Gary look like junior high kids. It's pathetic.

I don't mind Verne and Gary. MUCH better than Musberger. However, while I would love to see and hear Ron Franklin again, I'm afraid that will never happen.

Nope.  He committed an unpardonable sin, making politically incorrect remarks aimed at one of the protected classes.

Verne is OK, not my favorite but OK. Now Danielson on the other hand is a dipweed in my book - he always tries foreshadowing comments on the way he thinks the game or a play-call may go and then takes credit for being right about 12% of the time. When he's wrong the other 88% he just says, "I didn't think it would go that way". That's because you're not very smart Gary.

He just bugs me.

Because "old men way past their prime" own the companies that buy the advertising. When you are the primary sponsor of these events you can request a different commentator. Why do so many people bitch about the inadequacies of the guys that are far more successful than themselves?

Not more successful that's up it every man to choice for himself.  But the Baby Boomers did not learn from there parents who where the greatest generation.  All they did was run up dept never pay anything off and there for wont leave the work force cause they cant retire. So now you have a stagnant work force and a younger generation that can not advance because you have 70 year old's not getting out of the way. Which is killing the economy.
I have changed my sig line of over 4 years that was never a problem until May 5 ,2011

Verne's contract is up this year. He will retire Piglets.

Thank you for this comparison. I was getting ready to make the exact point.

Michaels calls the action crisply and accurately. Collinsworth provides interesting insight into strategy and detailed game analysis. You actually learn something about football listening to him.

Compare that the "Wows" of Verne and the incessant chatter about nothing by Gary. As you said, junior high at best.

Exactly...hard to stomach...really was true, i'm a homer but this is NOT an exaggeration. OM scores a touchdown and it's a whole different game, bet he said it 50 frickin times when the score was 17-0....

Go to the games and you won't have to listen to these guys.
Everyone is someone else's weirdo

This is the CENTRAL SCRUTINIZER...it is my responsibility to enforce all the laws that haven't been passed yet.

Collinsworth sounds like an old woman who smoked all her life.

Vern will not be replaced unless the ratings for CBS's college football games drop and they're not going to drop because most people tune in to watch the games not to listen to guys like Vern. There are much worse things than an aging announcer or a bad color analyst. Babbling sideline reporters, celebrity guests in the broadcast booth and graphics-crazy directors who think we'd rather see glitz than the game, that's what drives me nuts.

Quotee plans on tuning into Gary Danielson and Brad Nessler.

"I'm gonna call Gary and say, 'what the hell were you thinking? Why did you say that?'"

He also said he will miss SEC towns but not the travel it takes to get there.

"Chris Fowler, who's a dear friend, when he was hosting 'GameDay,' said the three most dreaded words in travel are: Atlanta Delta connection."

WOWWW!

Interestingly, I had to travel day before yesterday.

On Delta. Through Atlanta.

And I can vouch for Chris Fowler's observation.

I will do everything in my power to avoid that happening ever again.
