Its a young team and they need trial by fire.  These 4 weeks (not to mention LSU at the end) could be the toughest series of opponents that they will ever face.  Even if they don't win any of the four, they'll be able to look back and say that they played the best opposition available in the most grueling way possible.  The future can't get any harder than that.  If they win a game or two, so much the better.  Forged in the fires of hell this team shall be.

Anyone who wants to win games on the basis of easy schedules alone needs to have their head examined.  Look at the ACC.  Whatever team wins that conference usually does so by a decent margin.  Then, they get destroyed whenever they play OOC.  Is that what you want us to do?

I foresee a win-less September.  Frick.

CBP will right the ship sooner than later.

We have already won one game in September.

Otherwise known as, "Murderer's Row". We will be two of four in this stretch of games. Surprised? You shouldn't be. Can you say, "Bobby Petrino?"

What two do you predict we will win in that stretch?

Why?  So we may get a berth in the New Orleans Bowl?  Puleeease.

Quote from: GUVHOG on September 10, 2008, 09:56:00 pm
No, the Music City Bowl. The SEC does not have a tie-in to the New Orleans Bowl.
It's C-USA vs SUNBELT. For this young team, the Music City Bowl would be a good Accomplishment. It would be a whole lot better than sacrificing those young men
just to look good PR wise!!!

The single most important aspect of pursuing bowl eligibility is the extra month of development that bowl practice allows; it can be vital in the maturation of a young team with a number of players heading into their 2nd season, and can serve to ease the transition of a new QB who is having to learn the finer points of a scheme before spring ball.
No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

Hawghiggs

I just hope we win one of the next four. IF we can pull off a win against Bama then will have set ourselves up nicely for the back end of the schedule. We need a bowl this year. All those extra practices will come in handy. If (and its a big if )we beat bama I know we can beat Tulsa,Kentucky,Mississippi state, and Ole Miss Thats 7-5 record if we lose to south carolina and LSU I'd be happy to take that. Thats probably the Indepence bowl or the Liberty bowl

how about.... they come play up here.......or we  ust dont playthem at all..seeing  how  we  are  not playing them  next year due to the TX AM contract......lets skip the game on the 27th and  take the  week off to heal and  get a much needed break in the SEC...
thats stupid.  what if you skip that game and wind up going 5-6.  at that point fans would be b***ing because they didn't get a fair chance to get to six wins.

This fan wouldn't. I would be comending BP and JL for making what was obviously the correct move.

Cancel the game?

You gotta be kidding me.

We play tough teams all the time, doesn't mean players are going to get decimated with injuries.  Players get hurt, deal with it.

Play the game, get some guys experience and play to win.

Stop this bull "we can't handle this tough schedule bull"

That thinking is what kept us from firing Nutt. The thought we can't do better.

Absolute bull.

Tell me that when Arkanas enters RRS to play Ole Miss and over half of the Hog starters on both sides of the ball are physicly unable to play.

What good does it do to be ranked when half of the Hog starters on BOTH sides of the ball are out
for the season? If that happens they won't be ranked very long.

Why aren't we playing a H&H with Texas? did i miss something
"If I can't practice, I can't practice. It is as simple as that. It ain't about that at all. It's easy to sum it up if you're just talking about practice. We're sitting here, and I'm supposed to be the franchise player, and we're talking about practice. I mean listen, we're sitting here talking about practice, not a game, not a game, not a game, but we're talking about practice. Not the game that I go out there and die for and play every game like it's my last but we're talking about practice man. How silly is that?

It was initially a home-and-home with the Horns in Fayetteville in 2009.  We (apparently) asked that the '09 game be moved to 2016 (i think that's the year) because we start a 10 year series next year with A&M in the Cowboys' new stadium.

I'd personally rather play them next year, but no one asked me.

My opinion, for what its worth, if you want to hunt with the big dogs, gotta get off the porch and play somebody. You want a nationally recognized  and ranked program, it starts with this four week  stretch of baptism under fire for the youngsters. You don't get better playing little sisters of the poor, and beating Ole Piss and Piss lite twice a year, we'll take our lumps this year and some next, but watch out in 2010.

amen!  right f*kin on!

The players play for the love of the game.  Sure - many aspire to earn millions in the NFL; others hope to make enough to live on in the arena league; most receive an education in return for the blood, sweat and tears.  But at the end of the day, I think the players play the game for one reason - to run out in front of 90,000 screaming fans and play a game they love.  It's fun.  And games like Texas are the funnest of all.  For players and for fans.

Money is now a big deal to athletic departments, but it would be a crime to cancel an Arkansas-Texas game except where it is absolutely necessary, for reasons that have nothing to do with money.

IMO this 4 game stretch starting next Saturday (vs. BAMA) is by far the toughest 4 game stretch in the history of Hog football. No other stretch even comes remotely close.

Those four weeks are going to be brutal, and this will also force changes in the coaches' plans as far as how to spend the first off-week. There was really no good option for rescheduling this game, but I can at least see the positives:

- more time for the team to prepare and get hyped up for Alabama, which as our first conference game is far bigger and more important than the Texas game

- Being able to play our first really tough game at home, as opposed to going on the road in front of a huge crowd and potentially seeing this young team get overwhelmed early.

What is it Tom Petty sings about not backing down from the Gates of Hell?  You have to keep the perspective that this year is a building block.  Petrino is a firm believer in the philosophy that people will rise to the level of expectations you have for them.  Look at the progress Casey has made under that philosophy.  Do we have a young, inexperienced team?  Absolutely.  Will this be extremely difficult?  For sure.  But as MauHog says, think of the experience these guys will gain from this as they work to build this program.  It may not pay off in 2008 or even in 2009, but I believe that if Petrino commits to this program for at least five years, by the 2010 season we are going to see the fruits of the labor put in over the next four weeks.
