I got your junior
Could you send it back?  I've been looking for it since last week.  I must have dropped it outside walmart.

Oliver

I don't know if this has been mentioned already in this post...but I was at a Fayetteville game against ULL where we had to intercept a ULL pass in the endzone to win the game.  This was under Nutt's tenure.

The reason these guys are still writing positive for NUTT and looking for something against Petrino is that it will justify their Crappy (would rather use the S..word) reporting the last few years.

Petrino is exposing that Nutt was a fraud and therefore exposing the media has been a fraud in their reporting.

Then how about some embarrassing wins:

09/09/2000  Arkansas 38 Boise State 31 in Little Rock
11/10/2001  Arkansas 27 Central Florida 20 in Fayetteville (HC Game)
11/16/2002  Arkansas 24 Louisiana-Lafayette 17 in Fayetteville

Are you serious?? Is there such thing as an embarrasing WIN? Anyone is there such a thing as an embarrasing WIN.

Here's the quote from good ol' Hairy that is in question, I believe:

Nothing in Houston Nutt's 10 years was as surprising as the outcome that was in the making Saturday night. There were some close calls against so-so opponents, but not once was Arkansas on the short end against an opponent from the Sun Belt conference.

The points brought up about how HDN should have never been mentioned are spot on the mark, in my opinion, but I have another take, too.  He references "the outcome that was in the making".  Well, sorry, Hairy ol' pal, but that's why ya play 60 minutes!

"The outcome that was in the making", my aching arse!  See, we actually possess the ability to come back and win a game, Hairy.  The comeback itself makes the "outcome that was in the making" only to be a "close call".  And like you wrote, Hairy, "there were some close calls against so-so opponents".

So, using ol' Hairy's article and sense of deductive reasoning, this was just another close call to a so-so opponent.  Not too shabby for a coach playing more freshmen that ever at the UofA.  In a roundabout way, good ol' Hairy just made an affirmation of Petrino's ability, despite trying to create Huggerfest '08.

Harry last week said Nutt would be Petrino's scapegoat all season, which was as blatantly pro-Nutt a statement as anyone could make.  Why would Harry declare that Nutt deserves no blame for what happens this season?  It's ridiculous.

Nutt deserves tons of blame, More than half of the players that are making plays for us would not have been here if not for Petrino.  I tend to think this is the worst talent left by a previous coach since Ford took over Crowes players.  No way in hades would nutt have a chance to do better than 4 wins

If Nutt were still the coach any wins or losses would be forgiven, he would have been granted a pass for the next two seasons by daddy frank.

As far as Mr. King is concerned, he is an idiot.

Harry is far from an idiot, and he knows full well what happened.  I do not understand why what he knows doesn't get into print.  Just keep a lookout, he might write something soon that's a little more to the point.

I read the article and didnt take it that he was busting Bobby P or boosting Nutt. I took it that he was saying "Holy crap I thought we were going to lose this game and it would have been a bad one". I don't have the emotional connection to either coach as some so I guess I'm not as sensitive but I took it for what it was. A column talking bout a lot of mistakes and a win that was a little to close for comfort. Just my take.

I've read every word Harry has written for several years. I've never gotten the sense he was in Nutt's pocket.

Maybe when they renovate the WMS pressbox, they will clean old Harry's window so that he can actually see what is going on down below him on the field.

Newsflash Harry: Arkansas WON the game! They didn't lose it as you wrote (and obviously hoped). And they did it with the severe lack of depth and talent left by your friend's poor recruiting (of which you made NO mention).

Harry, in addition to the score and comeback win by the Hogs you must have "missed" the giant roar of approval by the Little Rock crowd announcing that your ole friend Houston Dale had lost his game.

Now we all know what Harry King is: just a nutt posse snake, lying in the media grass, waiting on his chance to pounce on Bobby Petrino and polish the damaged reputation of his friend who was fired.

In the UNLV example of an "embarassing win" above, it was noted that Hapless played FOUR quarterbacks.

Even more embarassing than that...NONE of the four qb's were NAMED Matt Jones (who was available and ready to play).  MJ had PROVED it by embarassing the HOG #1 Defense in practice time after time after time.....

aaa, isn't the new coach always compared to the guy he replaced?

For good or bad?
Scott, I don't recall any comparisons between pelphrey and heath or between TCTWF and Ford.  It is common practice to compare if the new coach is replacing a legend, but Hootie and is coaching style are far from legendary.

Well,  MOTHO is a legend in his own mind,  therefore in his mind his coaching style and "exploits" are legendary.

Where are the articles from Arkansas shillers that focus on the BARE CUPBOARD (particularly on defense) that the former coach left?

Where are the articles focusing on the NUMBER of true freshman starting and playing more than a few snaps in critical positions this season?

Does the previous "coaching staff" bear ANY responsibility for the talent, training, work ethic of the these UPPERCLASSMAN?

Yeah.  Don't be "holdin' yo bref" waiting to see THOSE articles....

Agreed...where are these articles?
I haven't seen them yet.
Not one about the bare cupboard, not one about
Nutt having ANY responsibility for the talent level, NOTHING.
Maybe I just missed them, just pass a link along when you find one.

Harry is most definately in the Nutt corner, always is on the Buzz, and the bet was he was the most probable speaker of the comment "Boy, Nutt's not such a bad coach now" or something along those lines after Western Illinois.

You have got to be kidding!!!!!!!!!!!

King literally put out lies that Houston Nutt told directly to King in an interview about the Mustain situation.

Then King, the great objective journalist, didn't even do any homework to find out that when Nutt had told him in the interview that he hadn't talked to Mustain about his comments in the book it was a freaking documented lie!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Mustain had been quoted 2 weeks before Nutt's interview saying that he and coach Nutt had talked about the very subject and that it was behind them!

Was there ever any follow up to this public lie by any "journalist" in the Arkansas media? %&*# NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Objective my arse.

You know who isn't objective? SCOTT FALDON!

Criticize any journalist and the media apologist for Arkansas comes running to save the day and point out that you and I are Wee littlte intellects up beside such "professionals". We are biased, but journalists, even though they are people and have biases also, do not let them influence their work.

If it weren't so sad, it would be down right funny.

Scott I sure would love to read your reply on this post.  Jamie is absolutely correct.  Lets stick to the facts at hand.

I always read Harry.  He is very knowledgeable about most every sport (he's been around a long time), and I didn't read into his columns what most of you did.  I'm somewhat of a conspiracy theorist myself, but I don't think that Harry is a Nutt hugger.  His column is usually brief, and sometimes it doesn't end like it's finished, you know; you feel like you need to turn the page for the rest.  I don't think he was dissing Petrino.  I think he was talking about a near loss to a school that's supposed to be a cupcake.  Anyway, that's just my take.  And there's not one of you who hates the dork any more than I do.  I could hardly watch the Wake Forest game because I can't stand to look at him.  He probably had to have a transfusion because of blood-loss from biting his fingernails to the quick.

The ludicrous statement was "well, I guess Houston Nutt wasn't such a bad coach after all."
Of course it was Harry King, spoken while he was gloating over what he thought and hoped would be a WIU win.
King's article after that game and now this even more nutt-huggerish one after ULM point the arrow directly at him.
Pardon me Harry King, your Nutt-Love is showing.

Just intercepted a text from Nutt to King. It reads:

Hey! Just wanted to say "thanks" for sending me that article. Boy, I tell ya, nothing like readin' a "W" in the Sunday paper. Nothing like it. Man, that article was special now. I know you been takin' some heat for it, but just hold on to that ball   (point pen hehe).

Hey, I admit it. We did have some close calls against some so-so teams, but don't forget now, we had a cloud ya'll. A cloud. Love people from Arkansas, love 'em, but most of 'em just don't understand the SEC really is the toughest conference in America. Toughest conference in America!

Sure, we lost a few close ones to Tennessee, but they're in the SEC baby! Name a sun-belt team that can go down 35 in the 1st Quarter, the 1st Quarter! and still hang 20 on the Vols? I love that never give up mentality!

Kentucky? 7 OT's! In the SEC! Forget the losses. We made history baby!

Vanderbilt at home? You know we always wanted them on the schedule. Cupcake of the SEC! But don't forget now: toughest conference in America! Two words for that game: Jay Cutler. All the other teams got'em at their worst. Us? We got'em at their best! Hey! Don't forget now, we got redemption with that puff of wind. Beat'em on their turf. Tough place to win.

Oh, thanks for leaving out those bowl games. But you might mention I beat Texas! I beat Missouri too! I wasn't at the last one. Not even close!
I'm 2-0 in bowl games against those teams. I put Arkansas in double digits all-time in bowl wins. 11-22-3!

Wisconsin? DMAC wasn't a hundred percent. Caught from behind!
Minnesota? Best opening drive I can ever remember! Unstoppable.
OU? One interception away. One interception!
UNLV? What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas!
Michigan? We had the defending National Champs on their heels now. On their heels!

So, Harry, thanks again for the kudos! That's some good Nutt lovin'. Some good lovin'. I won't forget ya now. And don't forget, next time you feel the heat,
ALL YOU GOTTA DO IS...
WRITE THAT LINE, WRITE THAT LINE, KEEP ON GOING!

I've read every word Harry has written for several years. I've never gotten the sense he was in Nutt's pocket. If anything, he's the most objective columnist working in the state.

Of course, at this point, anybody who dares to say anything remotely critical of Petrino is painted as a Nutt fan. Even when it's not true.

He was comparing the results of Nutts games against the first 2 games under Petrino without mentioning that Nutt was left a team that was fully stocked with playmakers, and that Nutt left Petrino with an empty cupboard.  Petrinos system is way more complex and takes a while to implement, especially taking into account all the freshmen that are having to play on both sides of the ball.  So by omitting all the relevant facts of the matter, he was spinning the story to make it appear that Nutt is a superior coach to Petrino based on the outcome of 2 games.  He is pretty transparent in his love for nutt.  Isn't he the guy that made the comment in the pressbox at half time during ther WIU game?  I dont need to read obviously slanted articles that don't fully explain the situation.
