Someone explain why, realistically and with real facts why Self would leave KU.

Start with these facts.

KU will pay anything that Arkansas would, so that is no issue, KU's endowment is well over a billion dollars and you have to donate at least $1000 to the Ku Sports fund to even be put on the list to buy season tickets, and season tickets are sold out for years in advance.

Bill Self is not from Tulsa, he's from Edmond outside OKC where his dad was the highschool coach.

Bill Self met his wife at OSU and she is not from Arkansas.

Eddie Sutton does not consider himself a Razorback and Self's ties to Eddie are entirely at OSU, where Eddie went to school and where his name is on the court in the building named for his mentor. The only college Self might ever leave for is OSU, and that's a very long shot and Eddie's son is the coach anyway.

OSU is much better basketball school than Arkansas and OSU is no Kansas.

So, no real reason at all for Self to come, no one came up with anything.

Do you think that could be telling?

Flashback to a few years ago. Did you think that Roy Williams would have ever left Kansas? Probably not.

Yea, but he went to North Carolina, not Arkansas

He even cursed poor Bonnie Bernstein live on the air to show the people how committed he was to KU.  Not spontaneously but premeditated.  Then he went and had a good cry.

KU fans always knew there was a strong chance he would go home to UNC, we only got Roy when we asked Dean Smith to come home to KU when Larry Brown went to the NBA. Dean said no, but I have this assistant coach you should talk to.......

Did Self go to Arkansas? Has he ever even been there?

Your point?  National perception doesn't place Arkansas BB very far below NC BB.  In fact, the country looks at us in much the same manner as Kansas.  Recent polling data proves this.

NO.  It's because you're a young-un with no sense of history, tradition or pride.  Your type is now killing our once proud programs with your blase' attitude towards winning and what it takes become a winner.  I guess that makes you a loser.
WOW Did it take you long to come up with that?
I see an improving program. If they make a coaching change now it will set the program back even further.

I'm thankful you got him too.  I have a soft spot for Mason County High.  Because of his perceived ability to play the "ball line" defense, I fear he would have kept Lukasz Obzut company on the UK bench had he come to Lexington.  At least in the last season Tubby has quit using the quote, "How could we have offered Lofton?  We had Joe Crawford signed."

Speaking of Mason County High, Lofton knows how to lead an underdog team to a tournament championship in front of 20,000+ screaming fans.  The "Original Sweet 16:  The Kentucky High School Basketball Tournament".  Where like "Hoosiers" there is still no classification system in play.

Many saw what Gillispie's team winning tough down the wire against Louisville in Lexington.

Self had an easier draw with this year's UK edition.  Self's team is extremely team-oriented, stuck to the plan, found the open man on the arc and buried 3's.  Tough pressure did not result in a lot of turnovers but helped contribute to rubbery legs.  That used to be UK's trademark (and another SEC team in the West).  Self has a little Cap'n in him.  He did not pull the starters until 18 seconds were left despite a commanding lead.  Home folks are going to like that.

Self - and he will bring with him the Swedish Bikini Team and a cure for cancer.

Everyone - stop it.    This isn't 1995.  Those guys (self, Gilles, floyd) have much better gigs already.   They are NOT coming to AR.  set your sights lower, cause we are NOT a premier bball program anymore.  Deal with it.

Bacon The Saddle Again

It's not always about it being a "better gig."  Sometimes people just aren't happy in certain places for no reason. I don't know what the issue is with Self.  Maybe he doesn't get along with the AD or the chancelor or the school president. Maybe he doesn't like Kansas.  Maybe he likes fishing and hunting or something. I don't know.  People make strange career moves every single day.  Saban moved from the NFL to take the Bama job nobody wanted for crying out loud!

Hey, shake, show me something concrete that proves OSU is a much better basketball school than Arkansas.  I know you can find stats that prove they've had more recent success, but I want something that can convince an objective fan that OSU is a better basketball school than Arkansas.

Summer 2005, Street & Smith Magazine had UA basketball ranked number 8 all-time.  I'm not sure which OSU that Shake is referring to, but Ohio State is ranked 12 on that list, and Oklahoma State is ranked 13.  Neither OSU is a better program according to at least one group of ranking experts. Oklahoma State certainly hasn't made up any ground in the last two years, even though we have lost in the first round each year, at least we made the dance.   Ohio State is running strong this year, but they didn't go dancing last year either.  http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/basketball/ncaa/men/2006/ncaa_tourney/brackets/

We'll since you put it that way, why don't we just continue trying to be an Ivy league school like Chancellor White wants us to be, then we can put athletics second to acedemics. I fact, since we are going to have the mentality of being a "non premier" athletic program, why don't we just do away with all sports on the Hill. We can use the Razorback Foundation's money to help strengthen acedemics.

That's not the point.  We have been, we can be, and I believe we WILL be again.

Either.  I'm so sick of not seeing fundamentals taught that I'd take just about anybody right now.  However, between those two I would choose Gillispie.
