Ex-Trumpet

I remember the Greg Horne jokes going around campus after a loss to Tx(?).  Poor guy missed a few that day...it was rumored he tried to hang himself after the game but couldn't kick the chair out from under him--then tried shooting himself, but missed wide right...

Cruel, heartless bastards we were back then... ;)

I remember Scott Rose, lol.   Good one.

And Count could shot, couldn't he?

Somebody remind me about Ricky Norton.   I remember his face, but not much about his game.

What I remember about Ricky Norton is that he was a sniper. He could rain 20+ footers all day, when he was on, and it kept SWC defenses honest in the days before the 3 pointer. I remember him getting beat in horse, though. I think on the Eddie Sutton Show, by an assistant coach named Brown?

One other memory of him was in a loss. I believe it was the round of 32 against Virginia (w/Ralph Sampson) in '84. If my memory serves me correctly, we were down by 2 with time winding down. He had the ball with his back to the basket, and appeared to lose his bearings a bit because he turned and jacked up a shot from about 30 feet. It banged off the front iron and Virginia continued on a run to the Final Four. I'm sure I could be mixing up some of the details. Does anyone else remember this, and can you confirm or correct my recollection?

How 'bout Bobby Jo Edmunds. I think some media still uses that clip of him getting decleated after catching a screen pass. Despite that moment of infamy, he was a great player for the Hogs, and went on to a successful career as a return specialist. I believe it was with the Seahawks.

wooly

I watched Bobby Joe play against Bo Jackson in the Liberty Bowl when I was 11. I think he had around 10 catches out of the backfield for one of Hatfield's team.  I remember riding back to Little Rock after the game, listening to the basketball team, with Joe Kleine dropping 40 on Iowa St(?) in one of the Hawaii tourneys.

I don't remember that... doesn't mean it didn't happen.  I remember seeing Roger Crawford go down with a knee injury.    To me, Biley was a great High School big man, but was not tall enough to dominate in college.   He was a handful at Pine Bluff High though.

Shaheed Ali
John Snively
Carey Kelly
Robert Brannon

I thought Ali got declared ineligible before he ever played because he had gone to a JC and made bad grades one semester?

Snively could shoot, but that was about it.

Carey Kelly was a good back up at center.

And Brannon was a teammate of Alvin Robertson's in Ohio. He played football, and I believe became an all conference defensive end one year.
Bless your heart

Slanteyedhog

Robert Brannon???  Didn't he play football as well?  One of the meanest looking characters on the team.  We brought him out at the end of the game usually to scare the inbounds passer on the other team into making a turnover.

Who was our punter that hit that 85 or so yard punt in the SWC days?

Steve Cox against Texas in 1980. 86 yards I believe.

Thank you.   You got a +1. 8)

What was the guys name that was a lefty, on the basketball team.... not K Reid, I believe it was Dubose or something like that.  First one to give me the answer, +1.

I remember when Guy Whitney dunked in the face of the SEC's leading shot blocker's (Ninjye-- cant spell it) face on senior night. Guy Whitney was a crowd favorite and when he played the whole place erupted.

That reminds me of one of his teammates whom I don't think anyone has mentioned yet: Robert Kitchen.

I'm also waiting to hear from anyone else who remembers Chris Brunt.

Chris - I knew him well.  He had the prettiest shot from the side of the top of the key.

I remember he could score and wore a band-aid on his chin. His Razorback career lasted all of what -- 11 or 12 games? I think it was either the 87 or 88 season. I'm pretty sure he got kicked off the team but I don't remember why....

Ahhh....Leroy Sutton...I was trying to remember the name of the guy that played small forward opposite Charles Ballentine(sp?) at power forward. As I remember it, he scored half of his few points on reverse layups after receiving a pass on the baseline.

Robert Reid, yes, that one.

William Mills all the talent, but man the rest. Ron Hurey (sp?) Phillip Mckeller, Mario Credit. I loved Jason Allen his Frosh year, until he broke his leg against Baylor in the snow. Well at least I think it was Baylor. I knew it was cold, sleet/snow mix and the team we were playing had ugly jerseys, but that would have included most of the SWC. I believe he had broken some Freshman Passing Records that held for a while. Gary Adams, what an overrated player. I think he was fairly highly recruited.

That was Baylor. It was dark since we didn't have lights yet, except for a few. Baylor had a QB that was very good, J.J. Joe.

Yes I forgot about him. I actually had a cousin that had played for Baylor a year or 2 before that and I want to say I remember meeting him. He was not a Hog so I really could have cared less at the time though.

Robert MacKenzie, Wally Freeman, and a 6'9" guy named  Parsons. I go way back.

Gary Parsons was my principle at Jacksonville HS.  He saved a kids life a few years after I left, snatched him from jumping 25 feet to the concrete below.  And he was 6' 11" he told me, but he looked like he was 9 feet tall.

My wife and I were watching a game and when he came off the bench, the commentator said something like "the pace is going to move from frantic to ridiculous now."  From then on, we called him "Mr. Ridiculous"--but as a compliment.

Divor Rimac once took a quarter off the top of the backboard and replaced it with a dime.  This is the best "not-so-well-known-or-remembered-Hog story I know of.  Divor could fly, and, as mentioned earlier, saved Nolan's arse a time or two.
