The strings that come wtih NIL now are big.  My guess is Muss didn't want that and his ego said I have done enough here for you to continue to throw bags of money and me not have to deal with your strings.  That combined with some of the big money guys royally pissed he refused to commit to the school his last 3 years, publicly shopping for ANY job, they had enough of him.

Arab High football coach arrested for allegedly sending obscene photos to student

By Howard Koplowitz and Ben Thomas |

QuoteThe head football coach of Arab High School was arrested Thursday on allegations he sent obscene photos to a male student from the school.

Lee Ozmint, whose bio also lists him as a teacher, was charged with distributing or soliciting obscene material to or from a student under the age of 19 while being a school employee, Arab Police Chief Shane Washburn told AL.com.

Ozmint was released from the Arab city jail after posting bond.

Efforts by AL.com to reach Ozmint were unsuccessful.

A case against Ozmint was not yet in online state court.

Ozmint has been the head coach at Arab since 2019. He has led the team to a 38-18 overall record and four straight playoff appearances.

On Thursday evening, Arab City Schools acknowledged it learned of "unprofessional and inappropriate communications between an Arab High School teacher and student."

The statement, posted on social media, did not indicate that the teacher was also a coach. It also did not name the school employee allegedly involved in the incident.

Ozmint, a native of Anderson, S.C., played football for Ray Perkins at Alabama and eventually earned a law degree. He served as a lawyer in Tuscaloosa and Gadsden before moving into coaching.

Quote from: Smithian on April 24, 2024, 10:17:00 amThe Calipari outcome I'm most worried about is five years from now the Razorbacks have ripped off at least four seasons of 25 wins, with no losing conference records. But in the tournament, only one second weekend.

A five year stretch that isn't "bad"

But a five year stretch that will have this forum rip itself apart arguing which coach had a better run in Fayetteville.

Cal will absolutely do everything he can to not have that happen.  If he goes that way here after his last so many years of UK like that, it would tarnish his career.  Not saying he is going to win a Natty here, but Cal cares about how he is perceived.  We will get the best Cal has the next 2-3 years because it will define some of his career and how he ultimately is remembered.

It would be silly of me to say "I don't care if we don't win a national championship under Cal", because I hope that we do.  But the IMMEDIATE brand boost (and our brand was already pretty strong) that he brings is such an infusion of excitement that if he coaches out his entire contract with even close to this much yearly excitement/hope/national talk, it will have been an amazing 5 year run.   Even if we "just" compete for a conference title every year, and make a couple deep tourney runs.

With his emphasis on player over team, I can see how more years than not the team might have a difficult time living up to the potential.   Perhaps a group or two really gels and lives up to the potential.  Either way, I look forward to the next few years.

Detroit Lions go 'Bama to Bama to Bama' in NFL Draft's first round

By Mark Inabinett |

QuoteLions general manager Brad Holmes did not expect to pick an Alabama player in each of the past three NFL drafts. And he certainly didn't expect for cornerback Terrion Arnold to be his choice in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft on Thursday night.

With the Lions scheduled to make their first selection at No. 29, Holmes figured Arnold would be long gone.

"We had a pretty significant line between him and the next guy," Holmes said about Detroit's cornerback grades.

After moving up five spots, Holmes tabbed Arnold.

"We're thrilled with how tonight went," Holmes said. "All these drafts, you never know how it's going to go. We knew it was an offensive-heavy draft. That's what we did know. But we didn't quite know that those defenders would get pushed to that point, especially a guy like Terrion. But we couldn't be more ecstatic or thrilled how it went."

It's the third year in a row that Holmes has traded up to pick an Alabama player.
