let's assume that Washington cannot get healthy, Fortson never returns... what can we do to salvage the rest of the year.  do we need to change schemes on the offensive and defensive sides of the court?

what helps?

what hurts?

i am tired of what if and when the players return.  let's discuss what makes us better now.

We have to make shots and stop making silly mistakes., i.e being cute with no look passes into traffic and passing up wide open shots just to pass the ball into a contested one.

We have to have better PG play no matter where it comes from. Nobles is not there yet and it is unfair to him that he was brought in to grow into that position not start at it. Welsh looked like his old self last night, although he did penetrate the lane quite a bit. He couldn't hit the ocean from inside the boat.

They have to keep the intensity the whole game and not just for a half.

We attacked the zone pretty well last night. We just couldn't knock down the shots.

We have to have a more consistent 2nd and 3rd scorer. RC has no chance if that doesn't happen.

That's my take.

Right on!!
Our field goal percentage in the second half last night was down right pitiful.

Kill the turnovers.     Scream at our guards to attack the basket every day, from sun up to sun down.    Continue to try to teach Powell how to set an effective screen, and use that to establish a pick n' pop game that works.

Threaten Welsh with GBH if he throws up any more 23 footers on 4-2 breaks.

No cause, ever, in the history of all mankind, has produced more cold-blooded tyrants, more slaughtered innocents, and more orphans than socialism with power. It surpassed, exponentially, all other systems of production in turning out the dead. The bodies are all around us. And here is the problem: No one talks about them. No one honors them. No one does penance for them. No one has committed suicide for having been an apologist for those who did this to them. No one pays for them. No one is hunted down to account for them. It is exactly what Solzhenitsyn foresaw in The Gulag Archipelago: "No, no one would have to answer. No one would be looked into." Until that happens, there is no "after socialism."

I would say to run half-court exclusively, milk the clock every possession to shorten the game.
11/19/2023:  Keeping my original semi-prophetic, apocalyptic signature below.  We continue to regret passing on Norvell, who is in the running for the Playoffs.  We continue regret passing on Kiffin, who is eyeing a New Years 6 game.  Heck, we regret passing on Drinkwitz (he may be a dork, but he will have his team in a New Years 6 game after they truck us on Black Friday).

Meanwhile, Sam is drinking Pittman, wondering if he has the leverage to re-hire Enos, Sexton is doing the triple Lindy into his Olympic-size pool full of cash, and thousands of hog fans are planning to dress up as empty seats for next year's Halloween game.

11/25/2018:  My original "Chad Morris" signature is below.  I'm modifying my view as follows:  We will continue to regret passing on Norvell and Kiffin.   After 3 years, when Morris is 10-26, we are going to be saying "What were we thinking?  Even Bert was better than this!"

Run the ball and play good defense.

I like the fact that we don't set screens for the best shooter in Razorback history.  Let's let him stand around on the wing and maybe he'll get a shot or two.  I've never seen a pure shooter wasted like this before.

Evidentally you don't watch the games. They set plenty of screens for RC. They all may not be properly set or RC may not run off them right and they may not even pass the ball to him at the right times. I will go with some of those, but they do attempt to set the screens to get him the ball.

RC runs screens very well;  its one of the major, major areas of improvement in his game-  defenders used to hip check him off the screen 2 or 3 steps before it was set up (we still telegraph our screens something awful);  unfortunately, our best screen guy is still Sanchez, who isn't doing a lot of quality screening from the trainer's table.

Without a true point guard or big man to dominate down low there is NOTHING this team is going to be able to do to win more than 5 more games all year. Anybody here have faith that nobles or welsh can run the point against uab, texas and the sec? What about no healthy mike? What are we going to do? Play delvon at the center? When clarke is being face guarded all over the court who is going to shoot? Welsh? We are going to be in real trouble the next 7 games or so.

netteltonhog

And just what possible 5 wins would you be talking about.  If the hogs play the rest of the season like last night they won't win another game.

I will find it very hard on this team to have a good conference season without CF at the point. However, if he has not done what is necessary to get back on the floor then he should not be there. MS is going to be hit and miss, so I wouldn't coun too much on him. MW will have to play through a lot of pain. It's going to be hard the rest of the way, but somehow i think they will show the improvement and resolve to win some ball hames.

I really believe that our only way to 'salvage' this season is the return of Fortson and a healthy Mike Washington.. I believed we were a tournament caliber team with a full roster and good chemistry, but regardless I don't see any way to salvage this season if Fortson doesn't return.

The only way to salvage the season is to fire Pel.

ArkieBrat

I still say that we should get a couple more dudes off the golf team.
My all time Razorback favs.....

1. 1969 Shootout (Longhorns 'n Hogs football)
2.  Great Alaska Shootout under Eddie Sutton
3.  Orange Bowl CLASSIC under the Great Lou
4.  Rollin w/Nolan AND the '94 NC
5.  Being able to see Nolan and Company at the Aloha Classic in Honolulu (Dec '94) & all of us breaking bread together at a luau, & watching Nolan do the hula after being called onstage. AWESOME!  It doesn't get any better than that.

Now just be patient, give Pel 2-3 more seasons to get some guys in here who can set screens.
I said...LSU has often been an overrated team.

That ignoramus Draconian Sanctions said..if we're overrated, why are we ranked higher than you are?

Let Rob Evans have a shot for the rest of the year.
