The Recruiting Guy

I talked to Ben briefly this evening about when he is planning on enrolling at the UofA and start working out with the team.

TRG:  Ben, when are you planning on making it to campus?

Ben:  It looks like it will be July 3rd right now.

TRG:  Have you been cleared by the NCAA Clearinghouse yet?

Ben:  No, not yet.  I hope to have that taken care of very soon though.

TRG:  How have your workouts been going?  You were working out with Mitch and the rest of the guys this spring, weren't you?

Ben:  Yeah, it has been pretty tiring but I have been sticking with it.

TRG:  What is your weight and 40 now?

Ben:  I weigh around 240 and my 40 is 4.55.

TRG:  This is off the subject a little, but how is your father doing now?

Ben:  He is doing pretty good, he is getting around but still pretty sore some days.

TRG:  Is there anything else you think people would like to know about how things are going with you?

Ben:  I just can't wait to help out the team and start winning some games.

TRG:  I hear you.  Thanks again, Ben.

Ben:  Your welcome.  I would like for you to thank your readers, tell them how much I appreciated the thoughts and prayers during my fathers accident.  It meant a lot to us.

TRG:  Will do.  Thanks again.

What a classy kid.  What else can I say!

I sure hope Ben and London Crawford are eligible!  I know these two and basically all of our freshmen are going to be good ones but Ben & London look like the types that can really change our passing game along with Andrew and Damian.

It will be an incredible night on September 2nd when those USC Trojans come calling!  I think the Hogs will beat them!

Remember how close we came to beating Miami in '88.  That was after a real spanking in '87.  I sure hope that we do and then they can bellyache all the way back to California!

Ben and London are both eligible, nothing to worry about.  Infact, it looks like Dee Williams will be the only one to not make it but they knew that early.  Good times are ahead of us and the future looks very bright.  WPS!

Does that mean Dee goes to Junior college for a few years?
Just can't help smiling these days!!!

This is great news and I think most of these guys will play early. Having a swift, sure-fingered tight end will be great. I  think Marcus Monk will also have a great year. As soon as Casey Dick came into the lineup we started seeing the same talent from Monk that he displayed as a freshmen. I also think Damian and London Crawford will play a lot but I think Casey Dick will be harder than most of y'all think to dislodge from his starting role.

So since we oversigned, who that is there now is not going to be there this fall?

The first thing I heard today was that he grew up on a pig farm. That's quite a start in my book. And my last memory was watching him hang 70 on Nebraska. Just those two facts are enough (for me to like him). Then, I hear that he's out of the Hayden Fry-Bill Snyder-Barry Alvarez coaching tree. Oh, that's enough for me to like a lot. Then, I hear he's got a 27-year-old wife. Okay, we can stop. I like him.

Snider is gone, contrary to the posts on other boards.  Poole is gone.  Tyrone left.  Thornton is going to transfer (ONe of the worst kept secrets on the hill).  If there is anybody else, I can't remember them right now.

Also, Culbert and Tate both transferred, and I believe I read that Mortensen is now a walk-on.

Somebody more in the know here help me out, but with Dee Williams going the JUCO route we only needed 4 more scollies (I believe) and from what I am reading above that would be 7 scollies opening up so we should be fine.  It that correct?  Swino, do you remember how many more we needed?

Everything should be fine now.

A few other things to ponder in the grand equation. I don't know the answers, but I will toss out the questions.

1. Will Matt Stoltz get a scholie if there is room?
2. Will they reward someone like Brandon Sturdivant with a one-year scholie?
3. What if a kicker comes in and wows the staff. Would they drop a scholie on them?

They could always be holding out hope that someone transfers that needs a scholarship. Hey, that's how we got Michael Grant.
I am a Hog fan. I was long before my name was etched, twice, on the sidewalks on the Hill. I will be long after Sam Pittman and Eric Mussleman are coaches, and Hunter Yuracheck is AD. I am a Hog fan when we win, when we lose and when we don't play. I love hearing the UA band play the National Anthem on game day, but I sing along to the Alma Mater. Number 3 would be awesome at this point...

Tomcat, its also the least likely scenario. Its far below the "gift" recruit who drops in our laps, ala Michael Grant.
